Ore is extracted using a variety of techniques, all of which have the potential to generate waste water. In addition, a number of miningrelated processes can generate waste water or contaminate local water resources, including: the transport and storage of overburden and ore; beneficiation and processing of ore; and the contact of natural water resources (groundwater, meteoric) with the extraction area and processing plant.
