Vancouver Island Transmission Reinforcement (VITR) Project
Delta to Duncan, BC, Canada
|Client||British Columbia Transmission Corporation (BCTC)|
|Services||Biological Sciences, Permitting & Stakeholder Engagement, Project/Program Management, Planning/Design/Landscape Architecture|
The VITR Project involves the replacement and upgrading of existing 138 kV overhead transmission lines and an existing submarine cable circuit connecting Vancouver Island to the Lower Mainland with new 230 kV infrastructure. The VITR Project will help to ensure a reliable supply of power for over 700,000 residents and the businesses on Vancouver Island and the southern Gulf Islands. The VITR Project was subject to Canadian (BCEAA and CEAA) and US (NEPA and SEPA) environmental assessments, permits and approvals.
Coordination of the Canadian and US environmental assessments during the Definition Phase of the VITR Project, and provision of expert witness testimony during the oral hearings on the Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) through the BCUC regulatory proceedings.
Our team worked collaboratively with BCTC to develop and implement practical solutions related to project construction activities and issues in a variety of physical and social settings along the project corridor, including along a controversial residential urban area, and within sensitive marine habitats within Georgia Strait and Trincomali Channel.
