Assignment
Golder holds the prime contract for complete operations and maintenance of the Summitville Mine Superfund Site Water Treatment Plant. The treatment plant is operated with oversight by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) as part of the cleanup activities of the Summitville Mine Site. The WTP treats acid mine drainage from an abandoned mine site at seasonal flow rates up to 1,000 gallons per minute. The contaminants of concern include copper, aluminum, manganese, and zinc.

Our Role
The plant process unit operations include flow equalization at the headworks, chemical addition (lime and polymer) for metals precipitation, clariflocculation for separation of the precipitated metals from the treated water, sludge recirculation, pH adjustment, and dewatering of the contaminant-laden sludge by filter press.

In addition to facility operations, Golder is responsible for complete site operations, including operations of water collection and conveyance systems, potable water systems, and all utility systems. Site maintenance activities include facility maintenance, site vehicle maintenance, and access road maintenance.

We are also conducting site environmental monitoring activities. This includes sampling and analysis of all site surface water conveyance systems, deployment and/or maintenance of surface water monitoring systems, downloading and analysis of site weather station data, and reporting of site environmental monitoring data.
